Sunday Afternoon Meetings

"There's a joy that comes through each week"
- Becca

Like most families, we get together both formally and informally in smaller groups throughout the week. We do meet all together on Sunday afternoons at 3pm at Histon Baptist Church, Station Rd, Histon, Cambridge CB24 9LN (see 'How To Find Us').

"Spirit-led, glorifying God and full of fun!"

- Abi

We typically have a time of sung worship and a sermon, although do be prepared if it's a little different! We also have a great youth and childrens as part of our Sunday meetings

"Sunday meetings are never exactly the same, but there's always a warm welcome, and it's led by the Holy Spirit.  You can really experience God in a tangible way.  Great teaching, too!"
- Jo

Life Groups

The Vision

As well as joining in our main weekly Sunday meeting, we believe that it is good for everyone to get involved in smaller groups during the week so that they can give and receive blessing and prayer with others.

However, we understand that people are at differen stages of their faith and lives, and that their needs vary as a result.  Accordingly we provide a number of regular - but very different -  'Life Groups' that aim to meet people where they are at (as Jesus did!), enable them to develop and express commitment to one another, and move them onwards in their journey as a disciple of Jesus Christ.

The Life Groups vary from regular 'traditional' prayer and Bible Studies, to activity based groups that aim to have fun while creating space for building solid relationships and meeting needs, wherever people are at!

Home/Bible Study/Prayer Groups

We have a number of Bible study and prayer 'home groups' that each meet fortnightly in homes around the city of Cambridge.

Each provides an opportunity for fellowship, friendship and prayer in an informal setting. Since we believe that ‘the family that eats together, stays together’, there is usually also an opportunity to share food, drink and conversation!

The Northern group meets at 6pm on every other Thursday in the village of Cottenham, just north of Cambridge.  For details
please contact Kim and Jonny Green

The Milton Group meets at 7.15 - 8.45pm, allowing parents to drop their teenagers (11-18) at Tribe,
every other week.   For more information please contact Clive and Shan Petry

Men's Group

Our men meet each Monday night from 8:30pm in the Red Lion, Histon for a relaxed start to the week.

It is of course in this excellent hostelry where many of NLC’s more 'energetic' plans have been inspired, mulled and hatched:  eg men’s conferences, mountain biking trips, football matches, hiking trips, motorbiking treks, curry nights, movie nights, rock gigs, Dads/lads weekends away…

Girl Talk

Girl Talk is the name we give to the women’s ministry at New Life Church.  In Titus 2: 3-5 it says:

‘Teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no-one will malign the word of God.’

Girl Talk nights create a space for women to take some time out of our busy lives to encourage each other in our walk with God.  We do this through Bible study, prayer, and discussion about the real issues that we face in our daily lives.

Some of our recent series have been 'Understanding Teenagers', 'Believing God' (by Beth Moore) and 'Captivating' (by John and Stasi Eldridge).  Last term we looked at what it is to be a true disciple of Jesus, through looking in detail at the life and ministry of the disciple John in a series called 'Beloved Disciple' (by Beth Moore).

Girl Talk is also a place to make friends and have fun. We've even been out tobogganing down a dry ski slope!

Other Life Groups

In addtion to the above, we have a number of other groups dedicated to more esoteric activities!

Here is just a sample of what's on offer this year:

Sports Group: this weekly group is open to anyone who has a basic level of fitness and who wants to get together with others for some relaxed physical activity - such as badminton, walking, swimming and table tennis - followed by a coffee and chat afterwards!  For more details contact Jan Watt

Motorbiking Group:  A bunch of us at NLC own motorbikes.  And we like to use them.  In 2008 we did a 2,200 mile trip round Northern California and Southern Oregon.  In 2009 we went down to the Alps. In 2010 we're planning a trip from Chicago to Boston....  The Motorbiking Group is for those interested in the thrill of biking, and of hanging out together.  The group plans a monthly ride out - usually at a weekend.  If you don't ride a motorbike, don't worry - there's plenty of room on the back!  For more details contact Martin Wilde.

NLC Hotheads:  a strange one, this....  This group is for those who like eating hot and spicy food and don't get the opportunity to do so at home because no-one else in their family can stand the stuff!  The group plans to meet together once a month at a restaurant or a home, eat dangerously, and chat.  What could be nicer?  For more details contact Martin Wilde.
