Neal Morse In Concert 2009

Neal Morse 2009

In June 2009 we were once again blessed by a visit from rock legend Neal, his family and friends.  Neal gave another evening of music and testimony, and was backed in some songs by Matt, Chris and Owen from Tribe, as well as Mike Smith from Histon Baptist Church.

One of the highlights of the evening was Neal performing 'Alleluia' with band, and a host of singers from New Life Church, who enacted the song's key message about praising God along with the whole of creation.  Neal admitted afterwards that he'd never performed the song with a live choir before and clearly enjoyed the novelty!

Best of all, the Spirit of God was very evident throughout the evening and the 200-strong audience left feeling blessed, encouraged and inspired.

We wish Neal and his family safe travelling and a swift return to New Life Church, Cambridge.

Neal Morse In Concert 2008
On Friday 17th October 2008 New Life Church was proud to welcome Neal Morse (www.nealmorse,com), a US rock legend, who led a worship service at a packed Histon Baptist Church.

Neal had taken time out of his European tour to come over for his first-ever visit to Cambridge. Accompanied by his family and a few colleagues, Neal took the time to hang out with New Life Church, who cooked him a splendid meal before the concert began!

One of the highlights of the evening was that our very own Owen, Matt and Chris had rehearsed a few of Neal's songs, which they performed with Neal on the night.  Cool or what?  In fact, so impressed was Neal that he invited the boys back on stage to pay a few songs with them that he had not previously rehearsed with them!

Best of all, there was certainly a powerful sense of the presence of the Holy Spirit as the service progressed, and there was no doubt that Neal's music and testimony had touched many hearts in the congregation.  One wrote: "It was truly amazing to be there yesterday.  Not only did I enjoy Neal Morse's music enormously, but I also felt challenged about my own walk with God after hearing his testimony and seeing his devotion in action.  We bought two of Neal's CDs yesterday. My son was listening to one of them earlier today and told me how much he's been enjoying listening to it, particularly the way Neal uses Scripture in his songs. He clearly ministered effectively to the younger ones in our midst, and I'm sure seeing Chris, Matt and Owen in action went some way towards achieving that as well! "

Neal himself clearly also enjoyed the service, and in his blog later commented:

"What a wonderful service we had! This band of fourteen and fifteen year olds had learned a bunch of my songs and played them really well. And it was a really good turn out. We just fell in love with the Pastor and his wife and all the people there."

Neal certainly made a lot of new friends and fans here, and we look forward to the time when we can welcome him, his family, and his wonderful music, back to New Life Church.

Girl Talk Conference 2008: "Trusting God"

‘Trust in the Lord from the bottom of your heart , don’t try and figure out everything on your own.’

Proverbs 3:5 (The Message)

In so many of our lives, we have experienced a breakdown of trust at some point.  We need to meet with the One who remains totally and utterly trustworthy in a broken world.

The Girl Talk Conference 2008 was a day of worship, seminars, and meeting with God and other like-minded women from in and around Cambridge.

Our Slum Survivor event had about 24 staying the first night and 15 staying the whole weekend.  Those involved were ages 11-17. We arrived on the Friday afternoon and built slums out of materials such as wood, crates, cardboard and tarpaulin.

We then cooked some rice and dahl to eat and served this throughout the camp. In the evening we also had a Bible study from the Slum Survivor resource booklet. We didn't get much sleep that first night as it was a bit cold and some of the young people were a little too excited, although I think they regretted it the next day and some had to be taken home with exhaustion!

Throughout the next day we did various challenges including making money from selling toys that were made out of scrap materials, and also water collecting. We also got them to do a spelling challenge during which their slums were destroyed. This had a massive impact on them and they learned a lot through the process of rebuilding them.
On the Sunday morning we again had rice and dahl and had more Bible studies. That afternoon, we went into church and explained what  we were doing and why we were doing it.
The weekend as a whole proved to be very succesful and really helped improve our awareness of poverty and the need for justice in other countries as well as our own.  The weekend had a real impact and will stay in our memories for a long time.
The total we raised in sponsorship money was about £900.

NLC Weekend Away At
Harlaxton Manor 2009

To the Manor borne..

"What an amazing weekend!  We are so honoured to belong to such an incredible family. Never have I felt so loved and accepted. The worship was fantastic - God really met with us.  It was also a great opportunity to relax and chat with people I didn't know very well. The open mic evening was ace.  We are part of an amazing fun-loving family"
- Angela

Indeed - what an amazing place and what an amazing time!  In the end, 93 of us spent the May Bank Holiday weekend at this fantastic Victorian seat - and learned all over again about the love of God and of our wonderful church family.

The adults were taken on a journey of forgiveness and spiritual wellness by guest speaker Ian Rossol, while our Tribe youth group learned about how to face the spiritual giants in our lives.  Mini Gems and  Captain's Crew made and put on the armour of God.... and didn't seem to take it off all weekend!

But it wasn't all talk- in the afternoons we clambered around the estate and neighbouring countryside on foot, mountain bike and motorbike.  Or played football, or went to the gym, or played snooker, or just spent time quietly with God.

Cue youth group...

"I thoroughly enjoyed being at Harlaxton, both the building and the sessions. It felt like spending a weekend with an extended family, with God being both the head of the family and at the centre of it.  An amazing weekend!  I came back feeling soaked in His presence and changed in many ways"
- Asha

And on the Sunday evening we put on a cabaret that would have even had Simon Cowell smiling!  It was, as someone said, just like an enormous, good old-fashioned, family knees up!

Best of all, two of our Tribe youth group gave their lives to Jesus.  What could be better?

Praise God! Roll on next year!

"Harlaxton Manor was a real experience!  I loved the place and was fascinated by the history and architecture – I even bought the guidebook!  The most important thing, though, was being together as a church family; worshipping and meeting with our Heavenly Father.  The series of talks was thought-provoking, challenging and inspiring.  It was an opportunity to spend some quality time with the Lord.  All our boys had a wonderful time and are already looking forward to next year"
